Computer games …
The computer games on Internet and console games are contemporary and devouring entertainment for which there is no age and geographical boundaries. This is a challenge to the human intellect, imagination, and resourcefulness, rash speed of reactions and ability for decision making in extreme circumstances. Actually, their magic reveals in the striking ability of the human brain, while staring at the screen, to associate itself with the main character of the game and transfer itself virtually to another place in another dimension and all this with the main purpose to turn the leisure time into an unforgettable adventure.

Tournaments …
Gradually, by following the progress of every single amusement, the hobby transforms into sport, which is capable to satisfy our natural striving for winning. The tournaments, based on computer games, have already become an integral part of our life not only in Bulgaria, but also in Europe, Asia and America. It is amazing that the whole organization of these initiatives is entirely a product of the enthusiasm and the volunteer work of young people from all over the world. They managed to combine their efforts perfectly surmounting the geographical distances and copying with any other obstacles that occurred. Becoming aware of the positive features of this matter and understanding the major role computers play for the intellectual growth of young people, the governments of many countries tolerate and support this process.

In Bulgaria …
In Bulgaria an initiative started by a group of gamers. They have created a big tournament in which participated representatives from all over the country. Thus in the spring of 2002 the tournament “Hoff Tourney” was established – a Bulgarian national contest of computer and console network games. There were held three Hoff Tourneys, which were very popular among young people – the number of participants and interest to the events had been gradually increasing with each subsequent tournament. The series of competitions were followed with great interest by the press, television, radio and electronic media as well, who were are our partners in the work for the creation for positive spirit and sport atmosphere in the computer clubs.

BFES …
As a result of the striving for stimulation and cooperation in the process of creating of highly qualified self-confident Bulgarian competitors, on 26 May 2003 was established the Bulgarian Federation of Electronic Sport (BFES). BFES cooperates in the development of teamwork skills, beneficial communication and extracts the maximum from the possibilities, which Internet provides regarding the further professional development of young people in Bulgaria.  Our efforts were rewarded in October 2003 when Bulgaria acquainted its first world champion of World Cyber Games in Korea. Bulgarian Federation of Electronic Sports works over different alternatives for both leisure time and business activity of Bulgarians who have chosen to live and develop in their own country. BFES also creates national qualification list from which the Bulgarian national electronic sports team is being selected. The Federation attracts to its initiatives children with unequal social status so that it would be able to support their integration in society.

The initiative …
Viewing the immense interests BFES has found out the increasing need of qualified specialists in the field of electronic sports. The participation of more and more competitors on the international scene requires their specific preparation. Only professional trained staff can offer this kind of preparation of the players, but still there are no training curriculums for trainers in this field except many young people take the functions of a trainer due to their own individual non-formal training. This fact has negative influence on the improvement of the young competitors and their qualitative performance on tournaments.

This is the reason why BFES initiated the idea for creation of a profession “trainer in electronic sports”. This initiative was supported by the Leonardo da Vinci Programme of the European Commission and in 2005 was given the beginning of its realization through the project “New opportunities for youth occupation – pilot strategy for vocational training course in the field of electronic sports” .
